    Our Story

    Apsara Ice Creams started it’s journey at the prime location of Walkeshwar in South Mumbai in 1971. It is still the flagship store of the brand.

    For several years, the focus was on selling mainly at this store and catering to a lot of B2B sales such as weddings, events, etc. It was in 2014 when the 2nd generation entered the business and elevated it to new heights by commencing four new stores in Mumbai’s prime locations such as Powai, Andheri, Lokhandwala and King Circle and later shifting the focus to franchise-based model.

    Products were instant hit and Apsara Ice Creams became popular among customers through word of mouth and Brand started getting franchise enquiries.

    In 2015 the brand opened its first franchise outlet in Nerul after which there was no looking back. By 2017 there were 25 outlets in 3 cities. Based on the growing demand, a 10,000 sq. ft. state of the art factory was setup in Thane from where ice creams are centrally manufactured and distributed.

    The brand reached a significant milestone when it opened its 100th outlet in 2020. Apsara Ice Creams today has come a long way with an amazing range of 50+ flavours & 125+ Outlets. Apsara Ice Creams completes its 50th anniversary on 22nd August 2021.

    Behind The Scenes

    Nemchand Shah

    Founding Partner

    He is the founding partner of Apsara Ice Creams. In 1971, he started making hand-churned ice creams in wooden sanchas out of a small shop in Walkeshwar, South Mumbai (the shop is now the company’s flagship store) in small batches. He strongly believes in using the best quality ingredients for production and a strict quality control process for manufacturing. His philosophy of using only seasonal fresh fruits in making the icecreams forms the backbone of the brand’s vision. He is currently semi-retired, but continues to provide valuable inputs and guidance to the company as needed.

    Jayant Shah

    Co-Founding Partner

    He is the first graduate in the family and was instrumental in setting up the first small scale production facility to cater to the growing number of customers. His systematic approach to production laid the foundation for the initial stages of expansion and brand building. Under his leadership the company had a strong B2B presence in outdoor catering supply and events in the initial years. He is currently semi-retired, but continues to provide valuable inputs and guidance to the company as needed.

    Kiran Shah

    Managing Partner

    He is the first post graduate in the family. Having completed his MBA from the prestigious Indian Institute of Management Lucknow, he worked at Procter & Gamble in Singapore to get exposure on FMCG Marketing & Strategy before joining Apsara Ice Creams in 2014. He has led the brand’s retail expansion to more than 100 outlets pan India under the franchise model and also instrumental in setting up a 10,000 sq.ft. state of the art production facility in Thane. He is currently involved in all strategic and marketing decisions of the company.

    Keyur Shah

    Designated Partner

    He is a doctor by qualification, another first in the family. After completing his MBBS, he joined the family business and spent his initial years developing the company’s flagship store at Walkeshwar. He currently looks after the manufacturing and pan India distribution operations from the factory. He has developed a strict quality and contact less semi automated manufacturing process in the wake of the pandemic to ensure all products are completely safe.
